1972 Ford LTD
|
I bought the LTD for a great price and helped a friend offload an albatross in the process. Terri and I had big plans for the car, hoping to completely redo the interior, and repaint it black, and hooking up the electric "extras" that you just have to have on a great cruiser like that. I did a lot of searching for parts, specifically weather stipping, which was in bad/usesless condition. I actually found sources for most of what I needed. Almost all junkyards do not carry any parts for pre 1980 cars and will instantly crush anything that comes in older than that. Unfortunately the car had a serious leaking problem, getting the seats wet, which we could live with, and shorting out the fuse box, which apparently it could not live with. Shortly before the fuse box was wiped out, the tranny plates became fused together so it could only be driven in forward gear. Just try pushing a 2 plus ton car backwards out of a parking spot. At this point the LTD was no longer a fixer up driver but needed to be parked somewhere and partially dismantled and leakes repaired, tranny pulled and the engine could use a serious going over. Unfortunately this is not possible at an apartment, so I had to find someone to take the car before the apartment towed it away at my expense. Fortunately after some calling around I found someone that came and took the car. I am sorry to see it go, but when I have the time and money to do it right, I will once again tackle this model and approximate year.
Here are some pictures of this ex-LTD ex-project car.
